Hey there!

I'm Lucca McKay

Professional & Passionate - Driving Impactful Design Solutions through Expertise and Collaboration

I am a passionate UX Designer with over four years of experience, adept at guiding stakeholders to optimize their sites through expert design, research, content inventory and analysis, and project planning. My professional journey includes significant contributions at Charles Schwab, where I led activities such as boosting team productivity by 50% through the development of Design Libraries and spearheading the creation of Organizational Guidelines for Website Accessibility.

User-Centered & Accessible – Designing with Purpose to Solve Real-World Problems

My goal is to enhance accessibility and solve problems for everyday people. Helping people better navigate the financial and tech spaces has always been a passion. My skill set includes proficiency in tools like Figma, Sketch, and Adobe XD, and a deep understanding of user research methods such as usability testing and contextual inquiry.

Community & Growth – Fostering Connections through UX and Lifelong Learning

Community In my spare time, I founded a UX book club in my area, fostering a community of like-minded individuals passionate about user experience and continuous learning. Beyond the digital realm, I am dedicated to making technology user-friendly and accessible, solving problems for regular people through thoughtful design.

Inspired by Art & Play – Bringing Creative Energy to Every User Experience

Passion Outside of work, I enjoy music, figure drawing, gourmet cooking, and gaming. I often spend weekends tickling the ivories at the local community college, creating art, or exploring the vast realms of Elden Ring online. Join me in the exciting journey of crafting user experiences that resonate like a well-played melody, where design, good taste, and artistry seamlessly converge

My career so far

Prior to my full time stint at Schwab, I interned there, where my focus was on designing their disabled employee rights website. Additionally, I served as a research assistant at Purdue University researching "dark patterns" within UX. While at the Purdue UXP2 lab, I helped lead interviews, create personas, and used analysis methods such as Affinity Diagrams, Journey Maps, Storyboards, and Contextual Inquiry for my research. At the Schwab internship, I created several iterations of multiple design products. I utilized a variety of methods to test their validity, including Usability and A/B Testing. I am experienced in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, Confluence, SharePoint, Java, HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, Blender, and Maya.

My Design Philosophy

Always Learning

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” - Mahatma Gandhi

One of my greatest strengths is my enduring curiosity and commitment to continuous learning. Whether delving into captivating UX articles, engaging in diverse conversations, or enhancing my skills in piano and art, I constantly seek fresh knowledge and growth opportunities, never embracing stagnation.

Listen intently and stay curious

“When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.” - Ernest Hemingway

Remaining genuinely curious about others' interests is key to exceptional listening and effective questioning. As a Designer and Researcher, I use open-ended questions to foster conversation and gain deeper insights, following the advice of my communication teacher who likened communication to a spinning top—just a gentle push keeps it going.

Keep iterating, always iterating

“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler's heart, kill your darlings.” - Stephen King

I embrace the iterative nature of design, always open to redesigns regardless of the stage. I'm committed to integrating crucial information, avoiding attachment to any design, and unafraid to "kill my darlings" when necessary.

Cherish the Journey!

As a UXer, I find immense fulfillment in helping people, cherishing the privilege to make even the smallest impact in someone's life, recognizing that finding joy in our work is essential to embracing life itself—a passion I've held since my college days.
